I won’t call it a headache, but each day when we repair to the computer lab, I find my thoughts swirling in a sea of information. The lab work provides a needed break. I engage a different part of the brain.

Today, I complained about the length of time our group was taking to complete work on our semantic net. Erroneously, I blamed our halting steps on the software we were using.

I griped, “That’s the problem with technology—it takes too long…”

Our learned facilitator pointed out my frustration lay in the cognitive processes and not with using technology. Using the software was easy. Deciding how to organize our net was difficult.

I was humbled and reminded how some of my students must feel when they try to grasp new concepts (cognitive dissonance).

I learned about

  • Creating a new page in wiki space
  • Adding links to pages in my wiki with long and short titles
  • Creating links to pages outside of wiki space
  • the existence and purpose of PAR-Tech
  • the difference between semantic net and concept map
  • LoTi’s significance for engaging learners by using technology appropriately

Tomorrow, I will be participating in my district’s first day of a cluster focused on UbD for Language Arts, so I will miss the fun of EDUC639.
