I have not blogged much because I have gotten bogged down with the minutiae of surviving my first year of teaching a new curriculum. Still, today, I took my ninth grade students into the computer lab to work on a small project. These students had to look up information about sharks and prepare a PowerPoint visual about their subject. I was amazed by the number of students who insisted on putting lots of text on each slide. I explained to my students that I wanted a title and a picture on the slide. The researched information about their sharks were to be contained in notes.

Some students know their way around PowerPoint quite well. I am surprised, however, by the number of students who do not know how to use the software, or have limited knowledge about PowerPoint’s features. So often I hear about students knowing more than adults know about using technology. I find that for me this is not true. I enjoy sharing information with my students. I share techniques for using Word and PowerPoint with them.
