Yes, the wiki is installed. No, I didn’t install it. The learning curve proved too steep for me this time.

I needed help.

I contacted my friend and mentor Pat Sine to seek her advice about installing the MediaWiki software on my web site’s server. MediaWiki is the wiki engine that powers Wikipedia. She mentioned that I might want to consider setting up a wiki account at WikiEducator, another free wiki powered by MediaWiki. Resigned to my limited knowledge, I visited the site, looked around, and decided this would be an acceptable solution.

Yesterday, bless her heart, I learned Pat  had installed the software for me. I am looking forward to using this wiki for my classes in the fall.

    Hi Anthony,

Wayne here over at WikiEducator. Stumbled across your blog post. Best wishes with your new Mediawiki install – its an incredible piece of software!

We’re starting a new initiative on WikiEducator called Handouts4Teachers –

Would be great if we could collaborate somehow.

    Wayne,
Thanks for visiting my blog. I checked out the Handouts4Teachers page at WikiEducator. Sounds like an interesting project. I agree that learners should have open access to educational materials. I am not sure where I would be if I did not have the resources to pay for licensed software. I am thankful for the various handouts shared by other teachers.
    Tony
